Negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan over a January move for Milan Skriniar have collapsed, according to Fabrizio Romano. Les Parisiens wanted the central defender in their squad ahead of the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, which is due to start in a couple of weeks, however, it now looks like they will have to wait until the summer to sign the 27-year-old.

PSG’s Pursuit of the Slovakian International
The Ligue 1 leaders have been actively trying to strengthen the squad in the winter transfer window. However, they have not managed to sign any player thus far, leaving it until deadline day to get some deals over the line. Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech is one player they are actively trying to recruit. Inter’s Milan Skriniar has been their primary target given the recurring injury issues that French international Presnel Kimpembe has faced in recent times.

Agent Roberto Sistici’s Ill-Timed Interview
Skriniar’s agent Roberto Sistici released an interview regarding the player’s decision to not renew his contract with the Italian club. The interview was released in the middle of Inter’s Serie A match against Empoli, during which, Skriniar himself was sent off. The interview left Nerazurri fans fuming and there has been a rift between the fans and the player ever since.

In addition to this, Sistici also mentioned that the Slovakian was in talks with PSG over a move. Moreover, he blamed the club for putting the defender up for sale in the first place. Reports from Italy say that Milan Skriniar certainly will not wear the captain’s armband again for the Nerazzurri as the reception from the fans could risk becoming negative.
Why Did the Deal Between PSG and Inter Collapse?
Romano reports that the Parisian club offered no more than £8.8 million for the former Sampdoria man. Inter, however, wanted at least £18 million for him. The Italian club were also unable to sign Turkish centre-back Merih Demiral from Atalanta who was intended to replace Skriniar, should he move to Ligue 1.
Despite this saga, Skriniar will sign with Les Parisiens as a free agent in July once his contract with Inter expires. But for now, the “wantaway” defender is faced with the task of winning back the fans of Inter Milan.
