The Gunners Are Adding More Depth to the Squad in January
Arteta and Edu Gaspar, Arsenal’s sporting director, have had a busy week in the transfer market. In addition to acquiring the services of Belgian international, Leandro Trossard, they have also completed the signing of Polish defender Jakub Kiwior from Serie A club, Spezia. The North London club find themselves at the top of the table in the Premier League, 5 points ahead of defending champions Manchester City. Adding more depth to their squad has been the main focus in the January transfer window.

Signing versatile young players has been the main focus for the Gunners in recent times. 18-year-old Fresneda certainly fits the profile of a player Arteta would like. Despite making only 11 appearances for the senior side in La Liga, he is rated highly by many clubs across Europe. His performances have prompted Goal to label him a “Spanish Wonderkid” for shutting down Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.
Arsenal Face Stiff Competition in Bid to Sign Ivan Fresneda
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly in advanced talks with Valladolid to sign the young right-back. Although Fresneda himself has not made a decision on his future yet, the Gunners would want to act quickly given Dortmund’s reputation for buying and developing young players.

Valladolid are reportedly demanding around £13 million for the teenager. Moreover, they want the youngster to be loaned back to them for the remainder of the season. Fresneda is a player with an incredible offensive presence in addition to his blistering pace. Joining Arsenal would greatly improve his tactical awareness given the knowledge that a coach like Arteta has.
For now, it remains to be seen if the league leaders can make a move for him before they lose out in the race.
