Fullback Ryan Law Recalled from Gillingham Loan by Plymouth Argyle

Full Back Ryan Law

Most of the news coming out of Plymouth Argyle this January has been regarding incomings. There may still be more new arrivals for Steven Schumacher’s side, but this isn’t one of them. Fullback Ryan Law has been called back early from his loan move at League Two outfit Gillingham.

Fullback Ryan Law Returns to Home Park

Gillingham are in a precarious position, just above the League Two relegation zone. It only gets worse for them with the recalling of fullback Ryan Law. The Torquay-born defender amassed over 1,000 league minutes, and the side top of League One, Plymouth Argyle have brought him back into the mix.

He will be best known by Argyle fans for his late winner in the FA Cup against Birmingham City. Law strode forward with confidence and then fired home with aplomb, this being one of his two goals for the Pilgrims.

This decision from Argyle begs the question of what lies next for the 23-year-old. It seems unlikely that Law is back in the mix with regular playing time on Schumacher’s mind. Therefore, a permanent departure from Home Park could well be on the cards.

Fullback Ryan Law made 17 starts in the league for Neil Harris’ team whilst his final outing was against AFC Fylde in the FA Cup, back in November. Injury has seen him sidelined for a few weeks, hence the absence from action.

The Future for Full Back Ryan Law

Captain Joe Edwards and Norwich City loanee Bali Mumba are the wingbacks more often than not in Schumacher’s five-at-the-back system. There has been talk about whether the latter could be recalled, following in the footsteps of Morgan Whittaker. If this were to come to fruition, the recalling of Law would make sense.

Whereas Michael Cooper and Adam Randell were able to break into the Argyle starting XI, Law was one of the youngsters who is yet to receive regular minutes in green. This could be his chance to take a step up, or alternatively, his sale could be on the cards, most likely to a League Two team.
