Chelsea Gets Boost in Mason Mount Contract Talks

Chelsea ‘Closest They’ve Ever Been ‘To Agreeing New Deal for Mount

The London side have been holding discussion with the England international’s representatives over a potential new deal for quite a few months now. They had even reportedly offered him a massive seven-year contract, similar to the one signed by Armando Broja earlier this season, but he opted to reject such a lengthy deal.

The Athletic adds that Chelsea are now optimistic about agreeing on a new contract for the midfielder after being given encouragement in the past few rounds of talks that took place involving chairman Todd Boehly, co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Mount’s representatives. While nothing is agreed yet and there are still some details to iron out, the London side believes this is the closest they’ve ever gotten to get him to sign a long-term deal.

Chelsea are now hoping that an agreement will be concluded in the next set of talks in January and that the 23-year-old midfielder will sign a new contract next year as well. They’re also willing to make him among their highest-earners to get things over the line.

Mount’s Chelsea Career Recapped

The Englishman has been a part of Chelsea from the age of six, when he joined their youth academy. He came up the ranks before being given his competitive senior debut by Frank Lampard in the 2019/20 season following some impressive spells on loan at Vitesse and Derby County.

Mount has since gone onto become one of the most important players at Chelsea and among the most prolific attacking midfielders in the Premier League. He has won the Champions League title with the Blues and played a prolific role in their impressive achievement in the 2020/21 campaign.
