Gakpo Unlikely to Accept Premier League Move in January
The 23-year-old Netherlands international has been attracting a lot of interest from the Premier League recently, but not just from the Red Devils. Romano adds that Leeds United and Southampton both wanted to make a bid to sign him in the winter transfer window, but a move for him in January now looks unlikely. The PSV star has been described as “exceptional” by his coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.
This comes after Gakpo came very close to joining United in the summer transfer window. He himself revealed about holding talks with the Manchester giants over a move, but that they backed out of the deal after finalising the transfer of Antony from Ajax.

After his incredible performances for PSV this season, the 23-year-old winger’s situation at the Dutch club has changed over the last few months. The Eredivisie giants do not want to let him go in the middle of the season, and they hope he’ll help them win some silverware this campaign.
United to Face Stiff Competition From Top European Clubs for Gakpo Signing In 2023
Manchester United are likely to re-enter the race to sign the prolific Dutch forward next year, having witnessed his impressive form this campaign. However, Romano adds that many top European clubs are interested in signing the 23-year-old next year.
Cody Gakpo: "I was close to leaving PSV. I spoke to Erik ten Hag a few times at Manchester United, in the end the deal didn’t go through… and it was a shame", tells The Times. 🚨🔴 #MUFC @TomAllnutt_

That would mean if Erik ten Hag’s side are really intent on signing Gakpo next year, they would have to fight off a lot of competition and convince him to accept their project over that of other prominent clubs. The PSV forward has an impressive goal-scoring record so far in his career, having scored 55 goals and provided 47 assists in 156 appearances for the Dutch giants.
