‘Special’ Arsenal Midfielder Undergoes ‘Successful’ Groin Surgery

Emile Smith Rowe

Ahead of the upcoming North London derby, Arsenal have revealed that Emile Smith Rowe, a player Jamie Carragher previously described as a “special talent”, has undergone important groin surgery.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Arsenal stated: “Following a significant setback at our Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 4, and after further specialist consultations and discussions with our medical team, Emile underwent surgery to repair a damaged tendon in his groin.

“This successful surgery took place in London in the past few days and Emile’s rehabilitation programme is already underway. We are hopeful that Emile will return to full training in December.”

A Career Plagued by Injuries

There is no doubting the talent and potential that Emile Smith Rowe possesses, but, his injury record is becoming very concerning for both Arsenal and their fans.

Since the start of the 2018/19 season, the 22-year-old has missed a total of 42 games through injury. This has resulted in Smith Rowe missing several critical games for Arsenal in recent years, such as the upcoming North London derby which he will be sidelined for.

However, the effect of these injuries is far greater than that. His absence from not just the matchday squad, but also countless training sessions as a result of these injuries, has hampered the excellent progression he was previously making under Mikel Arteta.

An All Too Familiar Situation

Arsenal fans will be desperately hoping that Smith Rowe doesn’t endure the same fate suffered by Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere was tipped for greatness by many after bursting onto the scene at such a young age and dominating massive Champions League nights, only to have his career trajectory destroyed by a continuous conveyor belt of serious injuries.

These injuries ultimately robbed Jack Wilshere of what could have been a stellar career, with the midfielder eventually forced into retirement at just 30 years of age.

There is still plenty of time for Smith Rowe’s fortunes to turn around and Mikel Arteta will be hoping that following the midfielder’s successful surgery, Smith Rowe can put the injuries behind him and help fire Arsenal to a vital top-four finish in the Premier League.
