Phil Foden, a player who ex-footballer turned pundit Micah Richards previously described as “sublime”, has risen to great importance in Pep Guardiola’s side and is now an integral part of the Manchester City squad.
So Manchester City fans will no doubt be delighted to hear what Fabrizio Romano has to say: “Man City and Foden have been in advanced talks over a new contract for months. There are still small details to be discussed but Pep Guardiola wants Phil for present and future, he’s happy to stay and so it’s considered as a very well advanced negotiation.
“I know City fans will be eager to know about an official announcement, and I don’t have information on that yet, but as I said, it’s advanced, so I don’t foresee any major issues.”

The Present and the Future of Manchester City
Fabrizio Romano stated that Pep Guardiola views Foden as the “Present and Future” of Manchester City – and this phrase does ring true. Foden has long been touted as the heir to David Silva at Man City, and although he is yet to quite reach that level, there is every reason to believe that he has the ability to do so.

At just 22 years of age, Foden is already one of the most technically gifted players not just in the Premier League, but in world football. He is the type of player that would typically be associated with Spanish football – intelligent, excellent ball control, superb link-up play with teammates and an ability to receive the ball in tight spaces.
He has already shown that he is capable of performing in the big matches, putting in stellar displays in both the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid and in the Premier League against their fierce rivals Liverpool.
Phil Foden is, without a doubt, a player Manchester City can build a team around in the future.
