Sunderland have completed the signing of highly-rated Costa Rica international Jewison Bennette. Following a long drawn-out saga, the 18-year-old finally arrived on Wearside to complete his medical and his move from Herediano.
The news that Bennette had completed his move and signed a four-year contract was announced on safc.com.

Who is Jewison Bennette?
18-year-old Jewison Bennette arrives from Costa Rican club Herediano following the agreement of a fee with the Black Cats. The left-footed winger who is comfortable on either side of the pitch or as a striker is a player who can excite fans with his ability to run at and beat defenders.
The teenager has played just 35 games so far in his career and despite this is already a full international. Making his international debut in August 2021 Bennette has so far made six appearances for the national team and is expected to be part of their squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
Bennette has also made a good start to this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in four league appearances.
Youngster Excited by Move to Wearside
Jewison Bennette spoke of his excitement following the completion of his transfer to Sunderland from Costa Rican club Herediano. Speaking to safc.com he said: “I’m very happy and I’m looking forward to taking on this new challenge. I’ve come here with the aim of helping the team as much as I can.
“When you see the Stadium of Light and this huge fan base, it gives you more motivation and desire to work hard day-to-day and give your all.”

Black Cats head coach Alex Neil spoke about his latest signing to safc.com. He said: “He is a huge talent and an international player. Our model is to unearth the best young talent and try to develop them, so for everyone, it is very exciting.
“We need to be patient and allow him time to acclimatise to a new country and learn the language – he is certainly one for the future.”
