Manchester United are internally discussing a deal for Real Madrid’s ‘monster’ midfielder Casemiro in order to try and sign at least one high-profile midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window, according to David Ornstein.
Erik ten Hag Sets Sights on Serial Winner Casemiro From Real Madrid
🚨 Adrien Rabiot to Man Utd now highly unlikely. Gap in wage offer/expectation mean move not happening as things stand. Live talks over other options such as Casemiro. De Jong improbable but #MUFC hope to get a top midfielder before deadline @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/pKojDR5GHM

Adrien Rabiot Deal Stalls Due to Wage Expectation
The internal talks began after the club’s pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot became unlikely to ever materialise due to the player’s salary expectations, which the Manchester side were unwilling to meet. It is now extremely improbable that the deal goes through, with United failing once again to secure a target this summer.
Erik ten Hag and his team have now turned their attention to the Copa America winner and are reportedly in “live talks” over a potential deal.
United are actively seeking reinforcements on the market since their disastrous opening to the season; losing 2-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 7 and conceding four goals in 35 minutes to Brentford the following week, leaving them rock bottom of the Premier League in 20th place.

Casemiro Honours List Continues to Grow – Became European Champion Again in May
The Brazilian provides an experienced, proven and dominant figure on the pitch. He has won almost everything on offer to him throughout his career, and at Real Madrid has secured his name in the Spanish giants’ history forever; five Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, three UEFA Super Cups, FIFA Club World Cups and Supercopa de España trophies, and one Copa del Rey.

Currently, Scott McTominay and Fred take a regular place in United’s defensive midfield and have rarely looked like a secure pairing in front of the backline. Against Brighton, the Scotland international was lucky to escape a red card after a reckless challenge on Moises Caicedo, which had to be checked by VAR. Fans have regularly stated their lack of confidence in the two and pleaded with United to bring in new arrivals to strengthen the position.
The Brazilian Would Provide Instant Impact in Lacklustre United Squad
Casemiro would change everything in United’s midfield. He is a recognised name across Europe and can offer Ten Hag’s squad exactly what they need: leaving everything on the pitch, playing ‘for the badge’ and offering creativity in attack.

If he was to join, he would reunite with former Real Madrid teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo – and fans would hope they can recreate the same form they were capable of in Spain.

The Red Devils will face rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on August 22 and will be keen to avoid the same embarrassment they endured last season. Jurgen Klopp’s men completed a double over United, with an aggregate score of 9-0.
