Brighton Defender to Bolster the Blues
Cucurella has arrived in London to complete his medical as the Spanish international edges closer to finalising his transfer to Chelsea. The defender joined Brighton & Hove Albion last summer for £15 million and has enjoyed a superb first season at the American Express Community Stadium. Manchester City were seemingly clear favourites to sign the Seagull’s Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year before Chelsea made their move.

Pep Guardiola’s champions refused to pay anywhere near the Seagull’s asking price, with the South Coast club reportedly rejecting their approaches of under £40 million. Brighton have officially said no deal has been reached, but with their star left back in London, it only seems a matter of time before Cucurella becomes a Chelsea player.
Levi Colwill could seemingly head in the opposite direction in a separate deal, with the young centre-back unable to earn a squad number at Stamford Bridge for the coming season.
What Cucurella Will Bring to Chelsea
The Spanish defender has shown his ability on the ball, which will be vital to him fitting in with Thomas Tuchel‘s possession-based style of play. The Chelsea manager demands a lot from his players, and Cucurella is a player that will deliver. His ball progression ability is impressive, whether running with the ball himself or picking the right pass.
He is accurate when passing and very forward-thinking, but he’s adept at the defensive side of his game, with him showing he can more than cope with the physical side of the Premier League.
