Diogo Jota Signs Contract Extension With Liverpool
Jota says Signing was a ‘No-Brainer’
In an interview on the club website, the Portuguese international said that the decision to sign a new contract was “a no-brainer”, saying: “Obviously [this is] one of the best clubs in the world. Last year was good for me and for the team.”
The attacker signed from Wolves in 2020 for £40 million and made an instant impact in the Liverpool frontline. With ten minutes left, he came off the bench to bag a debut goal and clinch a 3-1 win against Arsenal. Last season, Jota netted 21 times in a Liverpool shirt.
Jota faces a setback heading into the new season, having missed the pre-season with a hamstring injury. In an interview with the club, Jota said: “Unfortunately for me, I had an upset in pre-season because I got injured playing with Portugal. Coming back in pre-season, I felt it a little bit again. So it will be a few more weeks.”

Now, with the additions of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez to the frontline, Jota will return with competition for places as hot as ever. When questioned about the quality of his peers, Jota added: “I think it makes everyone better each day when you go out there and you have world-class quality all over the place. It helps you and we all get better each day.”
But the striker is ready to fight again. He continued: “When you fight for everything, like we did last year, you just want to do it again and to do it better because it’s possible.
“That drive is in me and I know it’s in my teammates and all the staff. We have everything to fight for those titles out there.”
