According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Ajax for defender Lisandro Martinez. The reporter added some key details including a reported fee of roughly £46 million with Martinez signing on the dotted line until 2027.
Initially, it appeared that Arsenal would be the landing spot for the Ajax defender but they have been pipped to the signing by the Red Devils.
Manchester United fans will be breathing a sigh of relief seeing the side finally strengthen the squad following the ongoing and tedious negotiations for Frenkie de Jong.

One of the biggest ties between the Argentine defender and his new club is former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. After his success with the Dutch side, the manager has been linked with a number of former players as he aims to strengthen his squad with familiar and talented faces.

It was Ten Hag who signed the defender for his former club in 2019 and immediately made the 24-year-old an important part of the team.

A Quality Signing
Martinez made his way through the youth system with Newell’s Old Boys, a club that has produced some of the best players of all time, but made his mark in domestic football at Defensa y Justicia where he spent two seasons. After impressing for Defensa y Justicia the versatile defender was picked up by Ajax and went on to win two Eredivisie titles and the Ajax Player of The Year Award in 2021/22.
