Tottenham Hotspur Consider Double Swoop From Merseyside

Anthony Gordon

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to add to their astute summer business by moving for two attacking stars from Everton, according to Lyall Thomas.

The north London club have a long-reported interest in Richarlison but they have now been linked with a move for youngster Anthony Gordon as well.

Additional Firepower for the Tottenham Attack

Tottenham are heavily reliant on their two star strikers, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, but their strength in depth in the forward positions is lacking. They added Dejan Kulusevski on an 18-month loan, with an option to buy, in January and he proved to be an excellent addition, but they could do with more options.

With Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn (the main other senior attackers in the squad) being touted with a move away from Tottenham, Richarlison emerged as a versatile attacking target with Premier League experience. Gordon has been added to that interest with the benefit of being a homegrown talent who was one of the shining lights in Everton’s poor showing last season.

Both Richarlison and Gordon offer tactical flexibility, which only adds to their value for Tottenham and allows them to rotate and give a well-deserved rest to players – especially Son and Kane – and with Champions League football to contend with once again this season.

Richarlison is Tottenham’s top target this summer and they have been in contact with his agents already, but Gordon is a boyhood Everton fan and may be harder to convince. The England U21 international played 40 times last season and is unlikely to get as much first-team action for Conte’s Tottenham side.

A Swap Deal is on the Cards

On top of Tottenham showing interest in Everton’s Richarlison and Gordon, the Toffees have been linked with two Tottenham players in Lucas Moura and Harry Winks. With this in mind, the idea of a swap deal between the two teams has been floated and could be of interest for them both.

Everton, who signed Richarlison in 2018, would reportedly have to pay the Brazilian’s former club Watford a sell-on fee of 10% if Tottenham bought him outright. By swapping multiple players and adding some money into the deal, Tottenham can get their players and Everton can avoid paying the sell-on fee.

Moura and Winks are players that Frank Lampard would like to bring to Goodison Park, but Everton can’t sign any players without selling first because they’re facing financial fair play issues. They’ve spent a lot of money in recent seasons but need to make smarter acquisitions this summer.

With both teams getting the players they want, and neither having to front up any cash, the deal makes sense for both sides and is one to keep an eye on.
