Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed yet another Frenkie de Jong update in this summer’s transfer saga that just keeps giving. Romano revealed in a tweet that Barcelona have given Manchester United a firm, exact asking price, stating: “Manchester United and Barcelona have been in direct contact today for Frenkie de Jong. Still no agreement on the fee, as Barca told Man Utd they won’t sell FdJ for less than €86 Million.

“Barcelona want full fee guaranteed, also because of La Liga rules to reinvest money.”

What We Know So Far About the Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United Deal

United are set to bolster their midfield this summer. Four players – Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard – who have been used in some form of midfield, be it attacking or defensively, are set to leave the club in a matter of days when their contracts expire. As such, the Red Devils need to make some signings in the middle of the park. This area was already weak during Ralf Rangnick‘s brief tenure at the Theatre of Dreams, but there are now significantly fewer player upon whom new boss Erik ten Hag can call.

Christian Eriksen is another player United are chasing, but they face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford for the Dane’s signature. This is entirely different to the De Jong saga, where the Manchester side are the only team serious about making a concrete move for the star.

It was expected that United would make another verbal offer to the Spanish giants this week, but after direct contact throughout Tuesday, they have now been hit with some concrete news from Barcelona, specifically that it will take €86 Million to complete the deal.
