Sunderland Bid Rejected for Midfielder Plus Talks Held for Attacking Duo

Alex Neil is still awaiting his first signing of the summer. According to reports he has seen a Sunderland bid rejected for a midfielder.

The summer transfer window rumour mill is now in full flow. Clubs across the country are attempting to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season. At Sunderland, it’s no different. The Black Cats will try to add enough quality to their promotion-winning team to compete in next season’s Championship. The latest rumours believe that Sunderland will hold talks to bring back an attacking duo who performed well for them in League One.

Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo reports that Sunderland want both Nathan Broadhead and Jack Clarke to return to the Stadium of Light for next season. There are also reports that the club have had a seven-figure fee rejected for an in-demand midfielder.

Latest Sunderland Transfer News: Midfielder Bid Rejected Plus Club Hold Talks to Bring Back Attacking Duo

According to reports, Sunderland have held talks with both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur regarding striker Nathan Broadhead and winger Jack Clarke. Wales Under-21 international Broadhead enjoyed a successful season-long loan on Wearside scoring 13 goals in 27 games. His campaign was hit by injury in December; however, he returned to score 10 goals in his last 14 matches.

Sunderland head coach Alex Neil may have to wait for a decision from Everton. Toffees boss Frank Lampard will likely be keen to take a look at the striker himself during pre-season before deciding on the player’s future.

Jack Clarke, like Broadhead, is interesting Sunderland once again. The former Leeds United winger who cost Spurs £10 million is in the final year of his contract at the North London club. The 21-year-old has had limited chances to impress since signing in 2019. He did however enjoy a loan spell at Sunderland during the second half of last season. He played 20 games for the Black Cats scoring once and providing the assist that took the club to the playoff final at Wembley.

Speaking after the playoff final victory Clarke posted a message on his Instagram page. he said: Thank you to everyone @sunderlandafcofficial for allowing me to be a part of your journey and welcoming me into your club!! My time here was special and Saturday was a day I will never forget!!

Sunderland Bid Rejected for Midfielder

Reports from Alex Smith of the Sun and Matty Hewitt of the Chronicle state that Sunderland, Huddersfield Town and Bristol City have had bids rejected for AFC Wimbledon midfielder Jack Rudoni. It is believed that a bid of £1 million was turned down for the 21-year-old.

Rudoni was awarded The Dons’ Player of the Season award following a season where he scored 12 goals in League One. However, the club were also relegated. The midfielder is seen as a key player at Plough Lane and the club will want to keep him as they attempt to return to League One at the first attempt. An improved offer could be too tempting to turn down for a club that could use the money to rebuild their squad.
