Xavi Concedes That Frenkie de Jong Transfer Is “Inevitable” as Manchester United Close In

Frenkie de Jong Transfer

Barcelona boss Xavi has conceded that a Frenkie de Jong transfer this summer is now inevitable, according to reports from Helena Condis.

It is also widely reported that De Jong himself has started to come to terms with the fact that he will not be a Barcelona player next season. According to Fernando Polo: “Frenkie de Jong is losing strength with each passing day as a Barcelona player – he is no longer a priority footballer in planning for the next season and the possibility that he’ll be transferred is increasing”.

Xavi Assumes Sale is Happening

Barcelona manager Xavi has come to terms with Frenkie De Jong leaving the club with Condis’ report claiming that “Xavi has already started assuming a possible sale of Frenkie de Jong this summer”. It is clear Xavi and Barcelona’s priority was to keep the talented Dutch international, however, the financial situation in Barcelona has ruined those plans. Barcelona know they will need the cash from a sale of one of their top players to be able to stay afloat financially.

De Jong wanted to stay in Barcelona, calling it his dream club. After his move from Ajax to the Catalan giants, the star midfielder has looked right at home. He played a huge role in the comeback last season that helped Barcelona secure second place.

United Can Capitalise on Barcelona Situation With Frenkie de Jong Pursuit

Although De Jong wanted to stay at Barcelona originally, he might be coming to accept a move to Manchester United. Former manager Erik ten Haag currently heads up the Red Devils, meaning the Barcelona man could reunite with his compatriot and become the key piece in the United revival. He would also partner up with his old teammate Donny van de Beek in a potentially deadly midfield for United.
