Manchester United expect to lose a number of players this summer, and their total value, as per Transfermarkt, exceeds £120 million. Who Will Leave and Can They Be Replaced?

With Erik ten Hag now having spent some time with the Manchester United squad, it is becoming clear who he is willing to let go as he rebuilds the team.

In terms of end-of-contract departures, there are quite a few. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata will all leave the Manchester side this summer when their deals expire. These players’ market values total almost £80 million, seeing the Red Devils let a significant amount of money they could have made in transfer deals leave for free.

These are not the only Old Trafford exits expected this summer, however. According to Andy Mitten, both Anthony Martial (valued at £14.4 million) and Dean Henderson (16.2 million) are set to leave United this summer, with the latter being Ten Hag’s best opportunity to raise funds. While there is no shortage of interest in the goalkeeper, it may be harder to find suitors for Martial. The Frenchman has had a tough time since his successful 2019/20 campaign, and after struggling on loan with Sevilla since January, another temporary deal could be the only way the Red Devils are able to get him off their wage bill for next year.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that English centre-back Axel Tuanzebe and fellow defender Eric Bailly will also leave the Theatre of Dreams this summer. The duo’s combined market value is £14.4 million, but they have not managed to become regular starters during their time at Manchester despite United’s defensive struggles over the last few years. They will now look for fresh starts elsewhere.

It will be a struggle to replace all of these players, and indeed the Red Devils are quite happy to let some of them go without others coming in to take their place. Despite this, Frenkie de Jong is currently being targetted as a Pogba replacement, and Darwin Nunez could be brought in to become what Martial was expected to be when he first signed.
