Manchester United have confirmed Austria boss Ralf Rangnick will not be staying on as a consultant following his spell as interim manager.
Rangnick joined United in November 2021, temporarily replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In taking over, the German coach had agreed a two-year deal to continue at the end of his interim spell on a consultancy basis.
More recently, he has been named as the manager of the Austria national team and has now called time on his spell at Old Trafford.
Austria Boss Ralf Rangnick Will Not Take Up Consultancy Role at Manchester United
Focusing on His New Job
Manchester United say that Rangnick will not be staying on as a consultant due to the demands of his new role as Austria manager.
Rangnick revealed this in a press conference for Austria and Manchester United were quick to confirm the news.
In a statement, the club said: “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.
“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.
“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”
Rangnick Disappointed as Interim Manager
Ralf Rangnick reveals he wanted a new striker at Man Utd in January: “But the answer from the board was: ‘No’. There were Luís Díaz, who is now at Liverpool; Julián Álvarez, who will be at Man City in the summer; and Vlahovic, who at the time was still with Fiorentina”. 🔴 #MUFC pic.twitter.com/gjV0FR0FCD

Rangnick’s spell as Manchester United interim manager was a little disappointing. Only in his first game as manager v Crystal Palace did it seem like there was a genuine, consistent attempt to press – the style he is reputed for.
Ultimately, it was decided that the players at his disposal were not capable of playing in such a fashion and Rangnick made the difficult choice to play a safer style – which didn’t work either.
United failed to qualify for the Champions League, instead securing Europa League football for next season. His reign as interim manager will be something fans want to forget as soon as possible.
