No one has been more active thus far in the transfer window than Aston Villa. Philippe Coutinho has been brought in permanently whilst it seems he will be joined by both Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos. The next name on the list is in a similar vein to Coutinho as a potential Luis Suarez reunion with manager Steven Gerrard could be on the cards, according to Jason Burt of the Telegraph.
Luis Suarez Reunion With Steven Gerrard Could Happen
Would Luis Suarez and Aston Villa Be a Good Match?
A lot of teams in the Premier League are yet to make a dent in the transfer market. Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard and the Aston Villa hierarchy aren’t messing about. They have targeted players well above their level and have succeeded so far too. Next up for the Villains is Uruguayan star, Luis Suarez. He may be past his prime now but this would still be some coup.
Luis Suarez was extraordinarily prolific in front of goal during his brief time with Liverpool, and he has continued to add to his reputation in Spain. He was hugely influential in a great Barcelona side and made the difference in Atletico Madrid’s second title win under Diego Simeone.

On the flipside, Villa’s frontline hasn’t been as harmonious as was first hoped. Danny Ings, Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia are the recent editions and none of them have been consistent enough. Ollie Watkins and Coutinho have been at the fore for Gerrard, with Jacob Ramsey chipping in from midfield too. Luis Suarez would provide clear experience and quality, something which could be much needed given the injury record of Ings in particular.
Where Else Could the Striker End Up?
Luis Suarez will be departing the Wanda Metropolitano no matter what next month with his contract set to expire. There has been talk of a move in and around South America. Clubs from Brazil and Argentina are amongst those interested, with MLS also being on the radar. Suarez, along with Lionel Messi, have been mentioned in the same conversation as Inter Miami.
The 35-year-old has spoken about remaining in Europe when it comes to his next move. Sevilla are the La Liga team being rumoured, whilst there are the usual rumours of a return to the Netherlands.
Luis Suarez would be a somewhat risky signing for Villa and Gerrard given his age and the wage he would demands. On the other hand, his CV speaks for itself and this move would be a real sign of intent for Villa moving forward.
