In news that Chelsea and their fans have been waiting for, The Premier League have approved the proposed takeover of the club by the Todd Boehly/Clearlake consortium. The Blues could now have new owners later this month following the approval by the government.
Chelsea have been up for sale since March following the departure of owner Roman Abramovich. There has been an air of uncertainty around the club since Russian billionaire put the Blues up for sale. He had his assets frozen by the UK government meaning the club could not buy, sell or offer contracts. They were also unable to sell match tickets or merchandise. However, they were able to fulfil their fixture commitments due to a special licence granted to them by the government.

Premier League Statement
A statement released by the Premier League said:
The members of the Consortium purchasing the club are affiliates of the Clearlake Capital Group, L.P., Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.
Chelsea FC will now work with the relevant Governments to secure the necessary licences to complete the takeover.
Chelsea Takeover Now Awaiting Government Approval
Now that the Premier League have given their approval, the Todd Boehly/Clearlake consortium, which is supported by the Clearlake Capital Group and fellow businessmen Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss now awaits the approval from the government. Should this happen the £4.25bn sale of Chelsea Football Club is expected to go through sooner rather than later.
For Chelsea fans, it appears that the uncertainty that has hung above the club these past few months could be about to disappear. The Blues, under the ownership of Roman Abramovich, enjoyed the most successful period in their history. They won five Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and two Europa Leagues. They have also had success in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Community Shield.
