Lille star striker Jonathan David could be on the transfer market this summer according to a report from Fabrizio Ramano. Sky Sports claim that among those linked with a move are Arsenal, however, it is unknown whether the Gunners would be willing to pay the €50 million price tag for David. It is unlikely that Arsenal would be the only club in Europe looking to add David to their squad ahead of next season. Therefore, should Mikel Arteta want the Lille star striker, he may have to act fast.

David’s Form Alerting Top Clubs
22-year-old Canadian Jonathan David has impressed since arriving in Europe in 2018. Signed by Belgian club Gent from Ottowa Internationals in 2018, the young striker scored an impressive 37 goals in all competitions in two seasons. His form attracted the interest of French club Lille and in the summer of 2020, David moved to France for a reported fee of €30 million, signing a five-year contract.
His first season in France was a resounding success. David helped his new club win the Ligue 1 title, their first in 10 years. David has continued to impress and score goals in his second season at Lille, however, the club has had an inconsistent season and currently lies in ninth place with four games to play. They were also knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage by Chelsea.
With European qualification looking unlikely, David, following 30 goals in two seasons at Lille, may now decide it is the right time to once again move on and he is unlikely to be short of offers from top clubs searching for a goalscorer.
The Canada international is likely to want to join a club that qualifies for next season’s Champions League, therefore Arsenal or any other club interested in David’s services may miss out if they fail in their bid to finish the season in a Champions League qualifying place in their respective league.
