Manchester City leading the Premier League title race hasn’t been an uncommon statement in recent seasons, but the Citizens may be leading another race, too.
The sweepstakes for striking sensation Erling Haaland are heating up as the summer transfer window approaches. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, City are leading said sweepstakes. This also comes off of recent news of Liverpool’s waning interest.
Manchester City have been busy closing deals for other South American and European young talents, but none are close to as established as Haaland is.
Di Marzio reports that the club is willing to offer Haaland a salary of up to €30 million per season while offering Borussia Dortmund Haaland’s release clause of €75 million as well as commissions equal to €70 million. Real Madrid remain very interested in Haaland, as Di Marzio reports, although their offer was not as convincing as City’s.

Once-in-a-Generation Talent
Manchester City are already very strong in the attack. With that being said, Pep Guardiola constantly uses different players and sometimes plays them out of their true positions. This is by no means wrong, as Guardiola continues to win, but it’s clear why they want a true striker. Their interest in Harry Kane last summer was apparent, and now their sights are set on Haaland.
Haaland is a generational talent. He’s struggling with injury this season but plays very well when available. In 19 Bundesliga appearances, Haaland holds 16 goals and seven assists to his name. In three Champions League matches this season, he holds three goals to his name. Haaland also scored a number of goals in other competitions.
Last season was spectacular by all means for the Norwegian. In 28 Bundesliga appearances, Haaland scored 27 goals and recorded seven assists. He also had ten goals and two assists in eight Champions League matches.
He’s also just 21-years-old, meaning he’s nowhere near his prime yet. Haaland still has plenty of room for improvement and Guardiola is certainly capable of unlocking the remaining untapped potential.
