Goals, goals, goals. Record-breaking Harry Kane just does not stop when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the opposition’s net. He has strength, skill, and is so clinical in front of goal. Kane is simply every defender’s nightmare and is now the top goalscorer in away games in the history of the Premier League with more records likely to come for the 29-year-old Tottenham Hotspur and England marksman.
No Stopping Record-Breaking Harry Kane
On The Road
Kane scored Tottenham’s second goal to secure three points against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on March 16th and with it became the top scorer in away games in Premier League history. Kane now has 95 goals away from home taking him past the 94 goals scored by former Everton and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. Not only that but he managed the feat in 104 fewer games than Rooney further demonstrating that he is one of the best strikers in world football in the modern era. It is a simply phenomenal record.
Kane told the official Tottenham website after the game that;
“It’s a nice one to have, away games in the Premier League are always tough, so to be able to score those goals and help the team win matches is really important. I’m pleased with that one. Thanks to the team and everyone involved, keep them coming!”
Kane’s first away goal came back in April 2014 when he scored in a 3-3 draw at West Bromwich Albion.
Clear of Frank Lampard
That goal against Brighton not only put Kane clear as the top away scorer but also saw him move clear of Frank Lampard and into the top five in the all-time Premier League goalscoring charts with 178 goals. His next target is to overhaul former Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero and needs just six more to pass his tally of 184. With the number of games left to play this season, it isn’t a case of if he beats that number, it is a case of when Kane gets another record.
After Aguero comes Andy Cole with 187 goals scored in spells for Newcastle United, Manchester United, Manchester City, Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Sunderland. Having already overtaken Rooney with his away goals, Kane will look to move past him again if he can reach 209 Premier League goals.
The ultimate goal is the figure of 261 goals which would take him past Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer. 83 goals sounds a lot when taken at face value but Kane is still only 29 years of age and it would be more of a surprise if he didn’t take the crown sooner rather than later.
More Than Just a Goalscoring Machine
Kane is much more than just a goalscorer. His all-round game is hard to quantify. He holds people off the ball with his strength and his ball control is tight and causes defenders a nightmare every time they face him. He draws fouls from opponents, frees up space for his teammates and his passing has developed to such a level that it has drawn comparisons with another Spurs legend on Glenn Hoddle. It is with assists that he has another record to his name along with striker partner Son Heung-min-min.
On Saturday 26th February Kane set up Son for what was Spurs’ third goal at Elland Road in a comfortable 4-0 victory earning the pair the record for all-time goal combinations in the Premier League with 37. That combination took them past Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard and it is a partnership that shows no signs of slowing down. They have an almost telepathic understanding at times, aptly demonstrated in the 3-2 away win at Manchester City. Kane hit a reverse pass with his left foot that split the City defence down the middle leaving Son speaker to run in behind and set up Dejan Kulusevski for the first goal. Kane hardly looked up but he knew where his strike partner was going to be. The pair combined twice more at home to West Ham United with Son grabbing the goals and Kane the assists. It is little wonder that when they operate on such a wavelength they can help Tottenham beat anyone on their day.
The Golden Boots of Record-Breaking Harry Kane
Kane has three Premier League golden boots to his name and one for England. It doesn’t matter what the competition is he will score goals and many of them. Kane is one of the most complete goal-scorers that football has ever seen. Not just in England but in the world. It seems almost criminal to think that for all his efforts and brutally clinical forward play, he is still yet to have a winners medal around his neck, a trophy in his grasp.
At Spurs he still has Jimmy Greaves’ all-time scoring record to surpass and if he remains at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium he surely will do that. Wherever he may be, he will in time be the greatest goalscorer in the Premier League history. Who knows what other records he may still break in his career but he won’t stop scoring any time soon and that will give defenders nightmares for many more seasons to come.
