Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson could leave Old Trafford on loan this January. Despite it already being late on deadline day, there are multiple Premier League clubs looking to sign the Englishman on a temporary deal before the end of the month, and this could very realistically end up materialising with David de Gea having re-cemented himself as the Red Devils’ number one between the sticks with some top class performances this season.
Dean Henderson Could Leave Manchester United With Interest From the Premier League
Where He Could Go
According to Samuel Luckhurst via Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Watford have made an enquiry about Henderson’s availability. Newcastle United were also said to be “in the background”, with the Magpies constantly looking to strengthen over the course of the month.
When these reports came out, we were already quite some way through deadline day, and as such, they suggested that any move for the United goalkeeper would be unlikely.
However, it has now been claimed by Jonathan Shrager that Henderson could well depart the Theatre of Dreams in the next few hours, with any deal likely to come down to the last minute. The 24-year-old has struggled for game-time at his boyhood club so far this campaign, and so a temporary move elsewhere would make sense both for the development of his skills as a player and that of his career.
With Watford second bottom of the Premier League table with the joint third-worst defensive record in the division, Henderson would certainly be busy if he were to move to Vicarage Road. However, he could potentially be tested on an even more regular basis if he were to join Newcastle, with Eddie Howe’s side having conceded the second-most goals in the English top flight so far this campaign. At St James’ Park, the United goalkeeper could find game time a little harder to come by with Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow both solid alternatives.
