According to Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo, a deal between Fulham and Liverpool for Fabio Carvalho has collapsed. The deal hinged on the player being loaned back to Fulham for the rest of the season. Those at Anfield simply ran out of time, however, with deal sheets not able to be used in the Championship to give them more time.
Liverpool will be incredibly frustrated to have fallen at the final hurdle when things seemed so certain. They simply left it too late, though, and have paid the price as a result.
Deal Collapses Between Fulham and Liverpool for Fabio Carvalho
Summer Deal Still Possible
In some kind of positive thinking way, this could be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool. At least, that’s the message that will be passed on by the accountants. Carvalho’s contract is up in the summer, and he will be allowed to leave Fulham as a free agent. That allows Liverpool to deal with the player, and the player only.
When considering that personal terms never seemed a problem, too, the Reds should be able to simply pick up where they left off in the summer. The worry will be just how much interest the midfielder welcomes when the summer window does open. Those at Liverpool will desperately hope that they are still in pole position come August.
For the rest of the season, it is now up to Carvalho to progress even further, and show Liverpool – or other clubs – what the could be getting once his contract expiration allows. The 19-year-old will be disappointed with the news about the Liverpool deal, but will know just how promising the future is, both in the short-term and long-term.
Liverpool, meanwhile, must now wait patiently for the summer to come around, and then act with the quickness they lacked this month.
