As per Jay Harris of The Athletic, Brentford have emerged as the surprise favourites to land former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen. The Dane has been out of football since his collapse at Euro 2020, resulting in an Inter Milan departure. Clearly keen to get back to the game he loves, however, a move to Brentford could be on the horizon.
Should Eriksen accept the Bees’ proposal, he will reportedly sign a six-month contract with the option to extend a further year.
Brentford Offer Christian Eriksen Premier League Return
Another Premier League Return
The January transfer window has been all about Premier League returns, with Philippe Coutinho making his comeback – joining Aston Villa, and Eriksen reportedly set to follow suit. And it’s hardly a surprise to see these returns, either. The Premier League has raced ahead of the rest of Europe when it comes to quality to the point that, where there is a top talent, there is a move to the English top flight.
It says a lot that Aston Villa – with respect, a mid-table side – have secured a Barcelona midfielder, who previously starred for Liverpool and Bayern Munich on loan. Meanwhile, Eriksen, a Serie A title winner with Inter, could be set to join a newly-promoted side. The quality in the English top flight has never been spread so wide.
Christian Eriksen getting back on the pitch is something we’re all keen to see. At Brentford, he has a chance to pick up where he left off and more. Thomas Frank will know the quality that the Dane possesses, and will be desperate to welcome that quality to Brentford. Meanwhile, Ivan Toney will be chomping at the bit at the idea of linking up with the former Spurs man. If the move happens, it may be one of the best in the winter window.
