As per Fabrizio Romano, Manuel Neuer has reached an advanced stage regarding talks to extend his contract at Bayern Munich. The veteran shot-stopper has undoubtedly already cemented his Bavarian legacy, but he is not done yet, it seems. At 35, the German clearly feels as though there is still plenty of fuel left in the tank.
In a recent interview with Sport1, Neuer said: Bayern is an outstanding club – we made history during my time here and we keep trying. Of course I want to be part of that.”
Manuel Neuer Bayern Munich Contract Talks Reach Advanced Stage
Following in the Footsteps of Gianluigi Buffon
Out of all the positions in football, it is the goalkeepers that seem to go on the longest – at least it looks like that will be the case with Neuer. The Bayern number one may feel as though he can go on in similar fashion to Gianluigi Buffon. The 43-year-old is still playing, having dropped down to Serie B to play for Parma.
It would come as little surprise if Neuer did the same by prolonging his football career for years to come. One of the first world class sweeper keepers, Neuer has every right to call time on his career whenever it suits him. As things stand, there is still no better option than the German number one at Bayern Munich. And even if, or when, that day comes Neuer is unlikely to give up his position without a fight.
On course to win his 10th Bundesliga title, Manuel Neuer has been soaked in glory throughout his almost-12 year stay; a stay that is set to go on for even more years. As the years go by, the goalkeeper will only add to his trophy collection, too – such is Bayern Munich’s dominance in the Bundesliga.
