Kenedy Recalled by Chelsea From Flamengo Loan

Kenedy

As first reported by Leticia Marques of Fox Sports Brazil, Chelsea have recalled Kenedy from his loan spell at Carioca Serie A side Flamengo. The wide man is expected to return to Stamford Bridge immediately after six months with Flamengo.

Chelsea Recall Kenedy

Loan Army Veteran

Kenedy’s spell with Flamengo was his fifth stint on loan since joining Chelsea in 2015. His first loan spell with Watford resulted in him making just one appearance for the team before a much more successful loan spell with Newcastle United saw him make 38 appearances in his season-and-a-half at the club. After two loan spells in Spain, Kenedy made his return to Brazil, where he started his senior club career with Fluminense, making just eight appearances for Flamengo before this recall.

Despite joining Chelsea in 2015 Kenedy has only appeared 15 times for the club due to a mix of injuries and loan spells. He is still just 25-years-old, however, and still has time to find a role at a club long-term.

Where Kenedy Slots In

Kenedy naturally operates as a winger which could allow him to slot in at the left wing-back role. Especially if Chelsea fail to get Emerson Palmieri back from Lyon, which is currently their main focus as they combat various injuries in their defence. Despite this need for a wide player, Nizaar Kinsella from Goal has stated that Kenedy already has another loan lined up which would mean he isn’t factored into Thomas Tuchel’s plans despite the depth he offers.

All Systems Go at Chelsea

Chelsea are juggling quite a lot in this transfer window. While they have locked down Thiago Silva, they are still trying to keep a hold of Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta. The most pressing issue is their need for a first-choice left wing-back to slot in for Ben Chilwell due to his season-ending injury. They are currently looking for short term solutions as Chilwell will be back next season hence their current focus on Emerson.
