A Short but Sweet Spell in Northampton
Twenty-year-old Kion Etete has returned to parent club Tottenham Hotspur after a short loan spell at League Two outfit, Northampton Town. The Premier League club confirmed on their official website on Tuesday.
The Derby-born striker played 23 times for the Cobblers, scoring six goals in all competitions. Etete has played a part in what has been a strong season so far for the club as they sit second in the fourth tier.
Prior to joining Northampton Town on loan, Etete regularly featured in the Spurs U23 side, particularly last season. Since signing for Tottenham in 2019, he has also played for the club’s U18s side, where he enjoyed a successful spell.
Another Loan Spell on the Cards for Etete
Upon his departure from Northampton Town, manager Jon Brady acknowledged that he understands Spurs want to see the youngster play at a higher level.
Additionally, Brady also said he understood Spurs received an offer for the 20-year-old: “We understand that Spurs received an offer from a Championship club to buy Kion but have no intention of selling, however they feel he now needs to be playing in League One for his continued development.”
The striker has been rumoured to be joining League One side Cheltenham Town. The Robins are currently 15th in the table.
Enjoying his football during the first half of the season, Etete has clearly impressed his parent club. So with this in mind, they have felt the need to test his ability at a higher level, hence the rumours linking him to League One Cheltenham Town.
