The German club have confirmed Denis Zakaria to leave Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the 2021/22 season and will do so as a free agent.
Zakaria to Leave Borussia Monchengladbach
Player Tells Club of Desire to Leave at End of Season
Denis Zakaria has been linked for some time with a move away from the German side with Manchester City and Juventus named as two potential destinations for the rising Swiss star. On Wednesday, December 29, an official statement from Monchengladbach stated that the player had informed them of his desire to leave. Sporting Director Max Eberl is not a man who holds back in his demands and his comments demonstrated the power he commands at the Bundesliga club, he said in the statement: “I made it clear to the lads that, by the end of this year, I want to resolve everything that doesn’t have to do with Borussia’s second half of the season. I want everyone to be fully focused on the club, the second half of the season and on turning this situation around.”
Eberl went on to say that decisions have been made and one of those confirmed the intention of Zakaria to leave: “Denis Zakaria has informed the club of his intention to leave in the summer after five years at Gladbach.”
Manchester City Could Make Move
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City may make a move in January or next summer for the 25-year-old as they look to sign a long-term replacement for the ageing Fernandinho and he may be the defensive midfielder that Pep needs to continue his success at the Etihad. With a free transfer being possible in the summer of 2022 this could be a move that would suit both the player and Manchester City.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Juventus and two English clubs are in contact with his agent.
