Last month, Fabrizio Romano reported that Andre Onana reached a verbal agreement to sign with Inter Milan in the summer of 2022 as a free agent. As of this week, that plan remains in place, according to Romano.
The deal will be completed once it’s allowed to by official rules. Many clubs, including Barcelona, are approaching Onana, but Inter remains in the lead. This will be an excellent deal for the reigning Serie A champions.
Inter Milan Remain Committed to Andre Onana
Strong Deal for Both Parties
First off, Inter has had Samir Handanovic in goal since 2012. The Slovenian remains nothing short of spectacular. Not only is he a superb leader, but also a superb player. Handanovic, however, turns 38 this coming summer. Due to this, Inter are wise to find a replacement.
Onana turns 26 in April. He’s shined for Ajax down the road, although he has not played for quite some time. This is due to a doping ban, but he’s returned to practice for the Dutch giants.
First off, Onana has great size. His reflexes are wildly excellent, he can control the ball at his feet and has top-notch experience as a champion in the Netherlands and a deep run in the Champions League.
He’s going to have massive shoes to fill at Inter, as Handanovic has been one of the top goalkeepers in all of football for nearly a decade now. Inter are also in the hunt for the Serie A crown, sitting third behind AC Milan and Napoli. The club also has a favorable route in making the Round of 16 in the Champions League. Handanovic can only add to his Inter legacy this season if it is indeed his last.
From a talent standpoint, Onana is one of the best available options for Inter. His talent is undeniable, and his age will allow Inter to have their solution for potentially up to a decade.
