Simon Kjaer Extends Contract at AC Milan Until 2024

Kjaer to Stay in Milan for Two More Years

The 32-year-old centre-back had a spell on loan from Sevilla, before making a permanent move in January 2020. He has racked up 66 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring one solitary goal. The defender has only picked up 10 yellow cards in his time at the club, justifying the official statement that praised him as a professional.

Milan’s press office described Kjaer an ‘exemplary professional on and off the pitch’, with the player rewarded with this new contract.

Milan Flying High

Top of the Serie A table, Milan are flying high having won five in five. The Rossoneri remain unbeaten, winning all but one of their games. They have the second-best defensive record in the top five Italian clubs, having scored the second-highest amount of goals.

Kjaer has missed two matches this season due to injury but has since put in 90 minute performances against FC Porto in the Champions League and also kept a clean sheet most recently in a 1-0 win versus Torino. Otherwise, the player has played a key role in Milan’s success so far this season. Extending his contract ties another seasoned player to drive the club onwards.

The Danish international is one of five over 30s in the squad which has an average age of around 26.2, blending young talents such as Sandro Tonali with veterans almost twice the 21-year-old’s age in Zlatan Ibrahimovic (40).

Kjaer is a quality player, named on the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist. He will continue to serve Milan with all his experience and talent with his new contract. The club will need him in the tough run to come.
