According to Fabrizio Romano, Dusan Vlahovic has rejected a contract extension from Fiorentina. The club’s president, Rocco Commisso, said, “Vlahovic has not accepted our huge contract proposal. We’ve been trying for months, but it’s over.”
The Serbian striker’s contract expires in June of 2023, but Fiorentina may look to sell him beforehand as opposed to losing him for nothing.
Fiorentina Striker Dusan Vlahovic Contract Talks Collapse
An Extremely Promising Striker
First of all, Vlahovic is only 21-years-old and does not turn 22 until the end of January. He’s accomplished plenty at a young age, but the sky is the limit for the forward.
So far this season, Vlahovic has four goals and one assist from seven league matches. Fiorentina, who struggled mightily last season, are currently fifth in the Serie A table with 12 points. This, of course, is due in large part to their top striker.
Last season, Vlahovic scored 21 goals and provided two assists in 37 league matches. Although Fiorentina struggled, the Serbian made a name for himself as one of the top forwards in Italy and one of the top youngsters in all of football. He’s on pace to be just as lethal this season.
With his ongoing upward trajectory, Vlahovic can certainly transform into one of the top strikers in the sport if given a top supporting cast.
Fiorentina purchased Vlahovic from Partizan Belgrade in 2018 for a mere €2.15 million. With his contract expiring in less than two years, La Viola must be considering cashing out. They could, at the very least, get 20 times the amount they originally paid for him.
Vlahovic was targeted by many teams this past summer. The list includes Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur. He’d fit in nicely on both teams. At Atletico, Vlahovic would replace the ageing Luis Suarez. Tottenham face constant Harry Kane speculation, and Vlahovic could replace him as well should Kane depart.
