Kalvin Phillips Contract

John Percy of The Telegraph has reported that a new Kalvin Phillips contract is close to being signed as the player looks set to extend his stay with Leeds United.

Leeds United Confident of New Kalvin Phillips Contract

Leeds Look to Fend off Interest in Midfielder

Phillips’ stock rose during an impressive set of performances for England at the 2020 (staged in 2021) European Championships as he helped England reach the final where they ultimately lost to Italy in a penalty shootout.

His performances have brought rumours that fierce rivals Manchester United are interested in the player with, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting a defensive midfielder to add to his squad. It wouldn’t be the first time in football transfer history that Manchester United raided Leeds, either. In the past, they have captured Rio Ferdinand, Alan Smith and Eric Cantona from the West Yorkshire club and Leeds are in no mood to let history repeat itself.

Negotiations Ongoing

Leeds opened negotiations with Phillips over extending his contract, which currently runs until 2024, and are said to be confident that the 25 year old will sign the new deal. The club’s current top earners are Rodrigo Morena, Raphina and England striker Patrick Bamford, who has just signed his own new contract said to be worth £70,000 per week, according to teamtalk.com

Phillip’s agent Kevin Sharp told the Telegraph that: “I’ve had positive discussions with Leeds throughout the summer on a new contract for Kalvin and talks are ongoing. I can only see a positive outcome. Kalvin’s desire is to stay at Leeds and there is a real willingness from all sides to make it happen.”

It is now a case of getting all parties to agree to the deal and ensure Leeds United do not once more lose a star asset to their bitter rivals.
