Dwight McNeil Always Focused on Burnley Amid Transfer Talk

Dwight McNeil

Opening up about links away this summer, speaking to LancsLive, Dwight McNeil revealed that he was always focused on Burnley and the new Premier Season. Everton were one club named as a potential destination for the winger, who is likely to make his 100th Premier League appearance for the club at Goodison Park.

Aston Villa and Everton Interest Not Followed up

Aston Villa also held an interest in McNeil, but neither they nor Rafa Benitez’s Everton followed that interest up with firm offers with Lancs Live reporting that neither club were prepared to meet the valuation Burnley placed on the player.

Transfer Talk Nothing New for McNeil

McNeil first broke into the first team at Turf Moor in December 2018 and it seems that transfer speculation has followed him ever since, with his name being mentioned with possible moves to the likes of Manchester United. McNeil, however, is not distracted with the speculation and insists that his focus has always been on Burnley and the task in hand, saying:

“It’s always nice when other clubs take notice but the main thing is that everyone here rates me very highly, which is always nice.”

McNeil continued to talk about how he values his Dad’s sound advice:

“He just told me the main thing is to concentrate on Burnley. I’m still a Burnley player, nothing has changed. I’ve got to give my all, everything I have to Burnley. I’ve got a long term contract and I’m happy playing football.”

McNeil’s father is also his business advisor and wants to keep his sons feet on the ground, especially when he is compared to the likes of Angel Di Maria:

“My dad makes a joke about it as well because he (Di Maria) has got tattoos and I’m just starting to get my tattoos done. So he calls me that as well.”

For now, Burnley have retained the player and he remains focused on the club, but it is likely it will not be long before the speculation mounts once more.
