Connor Wickham Joins Preston on Short Term Contract
Trial Period Leads to Contract
Preston head coach Frankie McAvoy has been impressed with 28-year-old Wickham’s trial period at the club resulting in the former Crystal Palace striker signing a short term contract. Wickham is now in contention for Preston’s Championship match against Sheffield United on Tuesday 14 September.
Wickham told the official Preston North End website that he is already settled at the club and is happy with how he is getting on with the squad and now wants to get back to match action;
“The boys have taken to me really well. I feel like they’re a really good bunch of lads, they’re quite close-knit so I don’t think that’s going to be an issue settling in. From now on it’s just about doing the talking on the pitch and on the training field.”
Ready to Provide Selection Headache
Wickham doesn’t feel that he is just around to make up the numbers at Preston and is ready to give McAvoy a selection headache;
“I feel ready. It’s up to the manager what he wants to do, I’ve said to him it’s going to be his decision ultimately who plays on a Saturday and on a Tuesday, that’s going to be his call. But I have to give him that headache out on the training field so that’s what I’m going to do.”
Wickham provides Preston with plenty of experience having reached 100 games across his time in the Premier League and Championship and will look to add extra firepower during his time with the club. He will be hoping he can do enough to earn an extension to this short term contract.
