After receiving his firs ever senior call-up to the England team, Patrick Bamford is expected to make his debut in the World Cup qualifier against Andorra, according to Phil Hay of The Athletic. The Leeds United forward will feel as though it’s been a long time coming having impressed last season. with each passing week at Elland Road, he continues to prove doubters wrong again and again, perhaps including Gareth Southgate.
The hope is that he’ll now kick on and find a new level for both club and country; he’s clearly got the ability, combined with the expected tutelage in Marcelo Bielsa, to succeed at the highest of levels.
Patrick Bamford Expected to Start Against Andorra
About Time
Bamford would have been frustrated with Southgate’s squad selection for the friendlies prior to Euro 2020. The likes of Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin made the cut – players who scored less Premier League goals than Bamford last season. Yet, time and time again, Patrick Bamford missed out.
Of course, selecting the England squad is never easy, such is the array of talents to choose from, but, it must be said, opting not to select the Leeds man was a strange choice. Alas, that time has passed, and we’ll finally see the forward wearing the famous Three Lions’ colours against Andorra.
The England appearance could be the boost he needs to get both his and Leeds United’s season up and running, too. So far, Bamford has scored just once and Leeds are yet to win, having lost once and drawn twice. If Bamford rediscovers his consistent goalscoring touch, then it will undoubtedly result in more points for Bielsa’s side. He is their talisman, and without him, they suffer,
Not to disrespect Andorra, but even they would admit that they’re not exactly what you would call strong opposition, hand Bamford the perfect chance for a debut goal.
