Cucurella Impressive for Getafe
The 23-year old has been lighting up La Liga for Getafe over the course of the last three seasons, accumulating 75 appearances for the Spanish side. However, the left-back has featured only once for the club so far this campaign and it came as a 23-minute cameo.
Now, he has switched over to England and will test himself in the Premier League.
They’ve been on the hunt for further additions to strengthen their side and ensure they don’t have a relegation battle on their hands again this season and believe Cucurella will be an astute addition to the squad.
Spent His Entire Club Career in Spain
The Spaniard has spent his entire career in his native country, initially beginning at Barcelona’s B side. After some impressive showings for them, he went on to play for Eibar and then Getafe.
The deal is believed to be worth around €18 million, as that is the fee that would trigger the release clause in the player’s contract. That means that his current club have no choice but to let Cucurella speak to Brighton over a transfer and it looks likely that a deal could be completed for the defender.
Cucurella’s underlying stats are superb and he currently finds himself sat in the top 10% of wingers in the top five leagues for a number of defensive stats, such as clearances, blocks, interceptions and pressures. He could therefore prove to be a shrewd signing for Brighton, as he is able to get back and do some solid defensive work whilst also getting forward and helping his team push on and start some attacks at the other end if it is needed.
