Arsenal transfer news has been rolling in fast recently, with the transfer window just over 24 hours from closing. The Gunners are reportedly on the verge of sanctioning exits for Brazilian winger Willian and England U21 international Reiss Nelson.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that former Chelsea star Willian will sign for Corinthians in his native Brazil this week. Meanwhile, the Athletic’s chief Arsenal reporter Chris Wheatley reports that Nelson will join Dutch outfit Feyenoord on a season-long loan.
Arsenal Transfer News – Exits For Willian and Reiss Nelson Looking Likely
Willian Ends Disastrous Emirates Spell
For Willian, returning to Brazil brings an end to a largely successful career in European football. The 33-year-old started his club career at Corinthians with the club’s U20 side, before breaking into the first-team and eventually securing a move to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in 2007.
Willian also enjoyed a brief spell in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013, before signing for Chelsea that summer in a €35.50 million deal.
It was at Stamford Bridge where the Brazilian’s career would reach new heights, with Willian helping the Blues win two Premier League titles and an FA Cup prior to his ill-fated transfer to Arsenal.
Having signed the 33-year-old onto a hefty 3-year deal when he joined, Arsenal are now reportedly set to save over £20 million in player wages by sanctioning his return to Brazil as a free agent.
Willian will sign a contract with Corinthians that will run until June 2023, securing his return to the club fourteen years after leaving as a teenager.
Reiss Nelson to Join Feyenoord on Loan
Reiss Nelson is another player on his way out of the Emirates, as he nears a loan switch to Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie. The 21-year-old winger played the final 19 minutes of Arsenal’s opening-day league defeat to Brentford but has been otherwise starved of action so far in this campaign.
That will change once his season-long move to Feyenoord goes through, with the player expected to receive valuable game time ahead of making an impact for Mikel Arteta’s young Gunners in 2022/23.
Nelson’s existing Arsenal deal expires in a year’s time. The young Englishman will sign a contract extension with his parent club before sealing his loan move away.
