Burnley have completed the signing of Maxwel Cornet from Lyon. The 24-year-old, who can play at left-back or on the wing, has signed a five-year deal with the Clarets.

Burnley Keen to Improve Left Side
Lyon accepted a club record £15 million bid from Burnley for Cornet.
Burnley have been keen to improve their left flank this season following the departure of the versatile Robbie Brady. The Irishman’s refusal to pen down a new contract left the Clarets with Charlie Taylor and the ageing Erik Pieters as the only left-backs at the club.
Cornet’s arrival will provide some healthy competition for both the left-backs and left midfielders. The Ivorian’s versatility will allow Sean Dyche to experiment with his formation and improve the Clarets’ attack.
Cornet has been part of Lyon since joining the club in 2014 from FC Metz. The Ivorian has spent seven seasons at the club and has made 251 appearances and scored 51 goals for Les Douges. But the arrival of Emerson Palmieri on loan from Chelsea and Xherdan Shaqiri has pushed Cornet down the pecking order.
What Was Said?
Upon his arrival, Cornet said: “I am excited to be joining Burnley in the Premier League and to play with and against many of the greatest players in the world.
“I have developed the greatest respect for Burnley and what the club has done. I welcome the challenge of hard work and am fully committed to doing what I can to contribute. I look forward to what we can achieve.”
