Personal Terms Preventing Kurt Zouma West Ham Move

West Ham Zouma

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, a verbal agreement has been reached for Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma between the Blues and West Ham United in a deal worth €30 million. Despite this, however, the move is relatively unlikely at this moment in time, with personal terms standing in the way. The news of a potential departure comes as no surprise when considering the Frenchman’s lack playing time so far this season.

As revealed by Ornstein, the defender failed to agree personal terms, with a big pay raise of £125,000 a week wanted.

West Ham would present a good opportunity, too, given their recent rise into the Europa League places. In fact, it could be argued that Zouma would cement their place in the top eight, especially when looking at the Hammers’ current options under David Moyes.

Chelsea Need Defensive Sale in Pursuit of Jules Kounde

Chelsea’s pursuit of Jules Kounde is no secret, much like their need to sell Kurt Zouma before anything can happen. Thomas Tuchel and the Chelsea hierarchy will be in no rush, however, thanks to the recent emergence of Trevor Chalobah. The young defender impressed enough in pre-season to earn a starting place in both the successful Super Cup final and opening day fixture against Crystal Palace, who he scored against.

Of course, it’s always nice to add more depth to a position, but the Kounde deal seems more a want than a need this summer. As for Kurt Zouma, he’ll be keen to gain crucial game time this season, leaving a departure as his only choice.

We’ve seen others make an incredible comeback under Tuchel, to re-emerge as first-team stars, but, such is the competition in the centre-back position, Zouma will struggle to enjoy a similar resurrection.

West Ham presents the ideal option on paper. Yet, as per Ornstein, Zouma is yet to accept personal terms. As the days tick by, the Frenchman’s Stamford Bridge stay will become increasingly likely.
