According to Gianluca di Marzio, Juventus are receiving offers for American midfielder Weston McKennie. He joined the team prior to last season from Schalke, but Juventus just signed Italian star Manuel Locatelli. This creates a midfield cluster, as Juventus also have Rodrigo Bentancur, Arthur, Adrien Rabiot, and Aaron Ramsey.
Juventus Receive Offers for Weston McKennie
Reasons for McKennie’s Demand
Di Marzio mentions that clubs outside of Italy are in the hunt for McKennie, and Juventus do not deem him unsellable. This, of course, is due to their crowded midfield and not because of McKennie’s talent.
The American midfielder has been in Europe since 2016, so for five years now. He’s only 22-years-old, so his experience is on par with other talents his age. He really burst onto the scene in 2018/19 season, where he scored two goals and had five assists in a combined 30 Bundesliga and Champions League matches for Schalke. The following season he became a household name in Schalke’s starting XI, and scored three goals in 28 Bundesliga matches. This earned him his transfer to Juventus.
McKennie was a bright spot in Juventus’s poor midfield last season. He scored five goals and provided two assists in 34 Serie A matches, and scored one goal in seven Champions League matches.
Outside of club football, McKennie is one of the United States National Team’s midfield stars. The team has a strong core of youngsters, and McKennie is part of that group.
He’s a high-energy player who’s always ready to succeed in whatever role he’s placed in. With that comes versatility, which McKennie also excels in. He joins in attacks quite frequently, and often finds himself at the right place at the right time. In addition, he never backs down from tracking down an opposing midfielder star and throwing in a few major slide tackles here and there.
Perhaps he doesn’t have star potential written all over him, but McKennie is a valuable asset to any team. It’s no surprise that offers are coming in for the talented American.
