Joe Willock Edging Closer to Newcastle United Move

Joe Willock

Newcastle United and Arsenal have been locked in talks over a deal to send Joe Willock back to the Magpies on a permanent basis – and today, reports from The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath and Sam Dean are claiming that the player is now one step closer to completing the move after moving forward in negotiations.

Newcastle United Deal to Sign Joe Willock Moving Closer to Completion

Joe Willock Flourished Given More Gametime with Newcastle United

The 21-year old has struggled for game time over the course of the last few seasons for current club Arsenal, managing only 12 starts for the side in four seasons. In fact, before his loan move in the last campaign, he managed only two starts for the Gunners.

In search of more regular first-team action, he joined Newcastle on a short-term deal. The move paid off, as he flourished and helped the side escape relegation. In 14 games, he managed a superb return of eight goals. It meant that he ended the season as the side’s second-highest goalscorer behind Callum Wilson, despite only featuring for the side for half of the campaign.

£22 Million Fee Reportedly Agreed

After such a phenomenal showing for the club, boss Steve Bruce is now eager for a more permanent reunion with the player. He could very well get that this summer, with a fee of £22 million reportedly agreed between the two sides. The only thing left to wrap up is the terms of the player’s contract and these fresh reports today suggest that negotiations have moved forward and that Willock is getting closer to completing a deal.

It would mean that Newcastle have bagged themselves a superb young player, who could help them kick on and push more readily away from relegation this coming season. As for Arsenal, they have their eyes on several targets before the window comes to a close, so the funds raised by this sale will be a boost to their coffers and could enable them to try and land some of the players they want.
