Having failed to sign a new contract, Lionel Messi is officially a free agent, and will join another club, Barcelona confirmed. So far, it is just Paris Saint-Germain, who have made an approach, according to Fabrizio Romano. Despite suggestions that Manchester City could make a move for Lionel Messi, Pep Guardiola has shut down any rumours of a transfer.
In a recent press conference, the City manager said: “We spent £40 million on Jack Grealish. We paid £100 million and brought £60M. He will wear the No.10 because we were convinced with Grealish and we were were convinced Leo would continue at Barcelona, so now, he’s not in our thoughts.”

Relief for the Premier League
Having just won the Premier League last season, the rest of England will be relieved to hear Guardiola’s denial about any Messi move. The Citizens have already acquired Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, and have been heavily interested in Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane; an interest Guardiola confirmed.
The fact is, they already have the strongest squad in England, perhaps even the world. Adding Messi to that would just be ludicrous. Given the money they’ve already spent, there would be a big question mark around whether they could even afford the Argentine’s wages.
So, for now, Manchester City fans will just have to use their imagination in regards to a move for Lionel Messi and the partnerships it would create. One thing that is for sure, is that a duo of Kevin de Bruyne and the little magician would simply be out of this world.
Whilst the rest of the Premier League will feel relieved after Guardiola’s press conference, PSG fans will be more excited than ever, with it looking increasingly likely to be a one-horse race to secure Messi’s signature this summer.
