Marseille Closing in on Ninth Summer Signing
Micky van de Van Will Be the Sixth Central Defender in Marseille
Marseille are in advanced talks to buy highly-rated Dutch defender Micky van de Van from Dutch second division side Volendam. Despite having two more years left in his contract, Van de Van has been keen on moving from the Dutch side this summer.
One of the biggest prospects in Dutch football, Van de Van had been on the radar of several major European clubs. Marseille have pipped the competition but are yet to agree on a fee with Volendam.
The arrival of Van de Van could leave Marseille with six first-choice centre-backs. Marseille have already made three additions in defence with Luan Peres, Leonardo Balerdi, and William Saliba. They also have Duje Caleta-Car and Alvaro Gonzalez in their first team. The arrival of Van de Van could spell the end of Caleta-Car’s Marseille journey. The Croatian has never made it a secret that he wanted to leave the club. Several clubs had the defender on their radars, but a move has failed to materialise.
A Young Career So Far
It’s been a relatively short career so far for the Dutch defender. Micky van de Van joined Voldenham as a 13-year-old and graduated from the youth academy. The defender made his professional debut with Voldenham’s U19 side before making his senior debut during the 2019/20 season. The 20-year-old has already made 45 appearances in the league so far. He also played a game wearing the captain’s armband when he was just 19-years-old.
