Out of seemingly nowhere, Southampton forward Danny Ings has signed for Aston Villa. Those at Villa Park have gone about this deal in silent, ruthless fashion; fashion you have come to expect from a side sitting at the very top. The deal, reportedly worth £30 million has left many in shock. It quite literally sprung from nothing, it seems, but what a deal it is.
Aston Villa just continue to enjoy what has been an incredible summer transfer window. They signed Emi Buendia, Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and, now, to add the final piece to their frontline, Danny Ings.
With one year left on his contract, many believed the forward would leave on a free next season, but, here he is, proudly holding the Villa scarf high.
Danny Ings Completes Aston Villa Move
Missing Piece
The experience Danny Ings will add alone is worthy of the fee. He can act as a true mentor to the younger Ollie Watkins in the forthcoming season. After securing the signing, Dean Smith said: “Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played.
“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young Academy players who are now in and around the first team. I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great Club.”
The now-former Southampton man will look to get going right away and impress the Villa faithful. The only worry for the fans now will be Jack Grealish. Is the Danny Ings move a result of cash set to be made from a Grealish departure? Only time will tell.
Either way, they are set up to have their best season in what feels like forever in the Premier League. In the last two years, Aston Villa have worked wonders in the transfer market.
