Brighton & Hove Albion have been dealt a blow ahead of the new season with yet another Danny Welbeck injury to deal with.

Manager Graham Potter has confirmed the news following the Seagulls’ latest pre-season match against Luton Town.

Danny Welbeck Injury Update

The Striker Expected to Miss the Start of the New Season

Brighton & Hove and Albion will be without Danny Welbeck for the start of the new season. The striker was expected to play against Luton Town but was withdrawn at the last minute following a suspected injury. It was later revealed that the striker had suffered a hamstring injury.

Graham Potter later confirmed the striker’s rumoured injury concern during his press conference following the Luton win, saying: “We’re just getting to the bottom of the extent of it. It’s obviously disappointing for us and for him. It looks like he is going to miss the start at this stage.

Danny Welbeck had a mini-resurgence last season after he signed for Brighton in October. The striker made 24 appearances for the Seagulls and scored six goals for them last term. Welbeck was the second-highest goalscorer for the club as they avoided relegation. The striker’s impressive season saw Brighton offering a new one-year contract for the striker.

Early Season Injury Concerns for Graham Potter

Welbeck’s hamstring injury early in the season has posed selection concerns for Graham Potter ahead of the first match of the season. The Seagulls have six forwards in their squad, apart from Welbeck. The pre-season matches have seen Potter opting for a two-man attacking line with Florian Andone and Percy Tau playing both the matches. It is unlikely that either of them could start with Neil Maupay and Aaron Connely further up the pecking order. But, if Potter decides to start with three attacking forwards, either one of them or Andy Zeqirii could get the nod to start the season opener.

Brighton will host Getafe on August 7 at the Amex in their last pre-season friendly. The match against Getafe could give a better idea of who Potter will opt to replace Welbeck.
