Crystal Palace Fail to Agree New Deal with Gary Cahill
Gary Cahill is now available as a free agent after the defender failed to agree a new deal with Crystal Palace. The defender was in talks over a new contract with the Eagles after the expiry of his contract at the end of June.
Cahill joined the Eagles in 2019 on a two-year contract from Chelsea. The defender quickly established himself as a first-team regular and played 47 matches across two seasons for Palace. During the period, Cahill also scored his first and only goal for the club during a win against Newcastle United.
But injuries had been a problem for Cahill at Selhurst Park. The defender had at times struggled with injuries and made only 31 league matches during his two years at the club.
What Was Said
Speaking to the fans on Twitter, Cahill said: “After much thought and deliberation, I can confirm that I have left Crystal Palace FC after an enjoyable two years. I have really enjoyed my time at the club, and I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved at the club, especially the fans and the staff who welcomed me into their South London family.
“It’s been a privilege to play at Selhurst Park, especially in that first season where I got to experience the atmosphere that the Eagles fans create on a matchday. Playing in front of the Holmesdale Road stand is a memory that I will cherish in particular. I would like to wish the club all the best for the future and wish them every success for the upcoming season.”
