Manchester City are set to loan highly-rated winger Dario Sarmiento to sister club Girona, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 18-year-old Argentine had recently joined the Citizens from Estudiantes.
Girona to Sign Dario Sarmiento on Loan
The Move Will Allow More First Team Minutes for Dario Sarmiento
Manchester City are reportedly moving 18-year-old winger Dario Sarmiento on loan to sister club Girona. The winger has never made an appearance for the senior team and only officially joined the Citizens at the start of this month.
Dario Sarmiento has been hailed as one of the brightest young stars in Argentina football. The 18-year-old already has former Manchester United midfielder, Juan Sebastian Veron, as one of his vocal supporters. Sarmiento graduated from Estudiantes’ youth academy after joining the club in 2009. The Argentine made his debut in 2019, as a 16-year-old. Despite making his debut at a young age, Sarmiento has only made 18 appearances for the Argentine club in his first two seasons.
Manchester City are hoping that Sarmiento gains experience playing in Europe. The Argentine arrives in Manchester after hardly having a full season of professional football under his belt. At Girona, Sarmiento will be able to develop at his pace, far from the media glare. With Girona playing in the Segunda division, Sarmiento will also be able to adjust to the European conditions playing in a weaker league.
Girona Hoping to Secure Promotion Back into La Liga
Promotion will once again be the aspiration for Girona this season. The Blanquivermells came agonisingly close last season but faltered at the final hurdle. After finishing fifth in the league, Girona won their promotional play-off match against Almeria to face-off Rayo Vallecano in the final. Despite holding a 1-2 lead going into the second round of the play-off finals, Girona lost to 2-0, resulting in Rayo Vallecano securing promotion back into La Liga.
The Catalan side have already added former Eibar defender David Junca on a free transfer. Nahuel Bustos is also returning for another loan spell at the club. Dario Sarmiento will be the third player to join Girona this season.
