Genk Beat Besiktas and Others for Ike Ugbo Signature
22-year-old Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo is close to signing for KRC Genk after agreeing on personal terms with the Belgian side. Genk had been leading the race to sign the former England U20 international after the news broke out last week.
The Belgian side could complete the deal in the next couple of days with the player keen on a move. The striker will return to the Belgian league after a successful loan spell with Cercle Brugge.
He has been amongst the goals in the last two seasons. The striker scored 13 goals in 29 appearances for Roda JC during the 2019/20 season before moving to Belgium.
He had an impressive spell last season that saw him help Brugge out of relegation. The Englishman finished the 20/21 Belgian Pro League as the sixth highest top scorer after scoring 16 goals in 32 matches.
Ugbo Ends a 14 Year Association With Chelsea
Ugbo will be leaving Chelsea after spending over fourteen years as a Chelsea player. The striker joined Chelsea in 2007 and came through their youth system. After turning professional in 2015, Ugbo struggled to break into the first-team.
With first-team minutes hard to come, Ugbo moved to Barnsley on loan in 2017. The next three seasons saw the striker spend time on loan with MK Dons, Scunthorpe United, Roda JC and finally Cercle Brugge. He had a impressive loan spell last season, but failed to convince Thomas Tuchel. Ugbo will be leaving Chelsea having failed to make an appearance for the senior team.
The forward will be hoping to reach his potential in a permanent switch this summer.
